HOW TO START & WHERE TO START
The most common question I get when people discover our research and system is where is the best place to start?
The great part about learning the SPEAR System® is that all the ingredients are organic.
(What the heck does that mean?)
When you show up to a class, whether it's online or in-person, you bring all of the resources we need to turn you into a human weapon & protector. The system is designed around physiology, kinesiology, and psychology. All are organic and all-natural. You bring the resources to class and, more importantly, you carry them with you all the time. In other words, you are already a human weapon system.
This is also what makes it so effective and easy to learn!
COMMON OBSTACLES FOR PEOPLE NEW TO SELF-DEFENSE
1) SELF-DOUBT ABOUT YOU: If you don't believe you're a HUMAN WEAPON, we must work on your mindset and fear management. Fortunately for you, we've got an entire body of work called KNOW FEAR®. In the program, you’ll learn how to think about fear and turn it into metaphoric fuel to ignite indignation in a time of danger.
2) SELF-DOUBT ABOUT YOUR MOVEMENT: Many people overthink the toolbox/skillset needed to defend themselves. If this sounds like you, I've got good news for you. The SPEAR System® is based on a primal gross motor movement. This means it's easy to learn and apply when you're under pressure.
ALREADY TRAINED?
Studying our approach to scenarios and mindset program will augment your toolbox, make you safer, and reduce your liability for those with an extensive martial art arsenal.
Yes, reduce liability. *Remember my last article about neural patterns and the romantic relationship we create when we “love” our martial art? That, too, can create a bias that leads us to action instead of avoidance.
In our crazy litigious world, the smartest thing you can do is also the safest thing you can do and that is to avoid and de-escalate.
Check out the next picture - it’s our “Timeline of Violence”, [TOV] a road map that helps our students navigate violence.
As you can see, there's a lot more going on besides punch, kick, block, etc.
Understanding this TOV will actually have a calming effect for many - it's like having a map before a road trip. Knowing what the journey might look like helps you pack and prepare. It also helps reveal where the most important part of the confrontation management takes place (hint: D1/D2) and also helps spotlight where most of us are deficient in our training (hint: D1/D2 😉).
Whether you're a parent, an entrepreneur, public safety, or any other Good Human, the last thing you want to be involved in is a violent encounter.
The remedy for this is to improve your situational awareness and avoidance skills.
Personal defense isn't about learning how to win a fight, it's about learning how to avoid the fight.
If or when the SHTF you’re either trained or untrained. Let’s get you trained!
Stay safe!

What if your palm strike was retrained to fire from the crossed-extensor reflex?
It would be faster.
It would be more powerful.
It would be more reliable.
