“REAL FIGHTS HAPPEN INSIDE THE SPACE OF A PHONE BOOTH.”
I remember the first time I said this at a seminar in 1987. The room got quiet. Then it hit them—this wasn’t just a metaphor. It’s reality. Most real fights occur at extreme close quarters.
The phrase caught fire back then because, well, everyone knew what a phone booth was. (If you don’t, ask someone older—they’ll explain. 😬👊)
I never thought that 36 years later, there’d be a “Phone Booth Fighting” trend! People who trained with me back in the day sent me videos of it with WTF and laughing emojis. It became our inside joke. But let’s be real—those videos, as entertaining as they are, aren’t examples of actual fighting.
Why not?
Remember our ACP concept: when there’s awareness, consent, and preparation, it’s not sudden violence. Add equipment, rules, and a one-opponent limit, and again, it’s not a true violent encounter. Real violence is chaotic, unpredictable, and primal.
BACK TO EXTREME CLOSE QUARTERS…
If someone can touch you, you can usually touch them.
The difference between surviving and freezing? Fear. Specifically: managing fear.
Fear is the real enemy. But here’s the good news: if you can manage your fear, you can manage to fight.
TARGETS THAT CAN CHANGE THE FIGHT
Eyes and throat: If your opponent can’t see or breathe, they’re less of a threat.
What I’m showing here isn’t complicated— and it’s primal.
Grab the head like it’s a melon. Grip it hard, like you’re testing for ripeness.
Grab the throat like it’s a rope. Firm, deliberate, and dynamic—like you’re climbing to safety.
You don’t need a black belt to do this. Nor do you need decades of training.
You just need to decide: I’m going to protect myself.
Visualize it. Practice it. Slowly. (Seriously, SLOWLY.) Grabbing a throat is dangerous, so take it easy in training. ⚠️
And remember…
Force must parallel danger >> PRACTICE WITH CARE
THE TAKEAWAY
Mismanaged fear doesn’t just stop you from moving—it stops you from realizing what you’re capable of.
The human body is full of targets, and violence at close quarters exposes them all.
You are a complete human weapon system.
Trust your body. Manage your fear. And act.
Stay safe.

WHAT'S YOUR BLINDSPOT?
Have you ever really thought about that?
I remember reading an old samurai tale about weakness. It described how a true samurai seeks out weakness in their enemy. At first, I thought, Well, duh. Of course, you’re looking for the Achilles heel, the opening in your enemy’s armor. But after reflecting on it more deeply, I realized this wasn’t just about the enemy—it was about self-awareness.
The real insight was this: Where am I weak? Where are WE weak? The true warrior doesn’t just hunt for weaknesses in others; they identify and strengthen their own. That’s where real power comes from—introspection, reflection, and deliberate action to make yourself stronger.
And that’s exactly what the BTS90 program is about. This isn’t some cookie-cutter, automated plan you can find online. It’s 90 days of direct, personal training with me, designed to expose blind spots and turn them into strengths. It’s about confronting fear, building resilience, and transforming yourself into a human weapon.
If you’re ready to get stronger where it matters most, let’s get to work.
Give me 90 days, and I’ll turn you into a human weapon.
