The Jackhammer Front Kick
The Jackhammer Front Kick is a staple in our system — fast, explosive, and versatile at close range.
Learn it - it'll be a wicked addition to your close-quarter defense toolbox.
Practice with precision.
Start slow. Own the movement.
“If you can do it slow, you can do it fast.”
Own the move — the timing, balance, proximity-sense, and target acquisition.
Start slow.
How to train it:
Practice in the air.
Practice on a partner.
Practice smoothly with a partner.
And pay attention to the safety cues I mention in the video. There’s a lot of pressure applied to the knee and ankle — don’t rush, don't train sloppily.
Watch the video a couple of times to absorb the concept. Then review the photos to start practicing.
FYI this kick is part of the SPEAR form, a special series of moves we teach all practitioners of the SPEAR System®.
1. NVP
2. Lock & load
3. The Jackhammer
4. The Recoil
WITH A PARTNER
1. IMPORTANT. This is a practice demo...I would almost never lead with a kick. I would almost always decoy or use my hands to smoke-screen a low line attack.
2. The approach
3. The 'lock & load'. Remember this is fast, sudden, experiment with your core and hip flexors initiating the lift.
4. Impact & follow-through. I usually aim for the inside of the knee. It's a softer target and affects balance more effectively. (Safety first! go slow with your training partners.
