There Might Be A Problem With Where You’re Training
Real Confrontations Take Place In Really Confined Spaces
Real confrontations don't take place in wide-open spaces like a dojo, ring, cage, or mat room where you have the luxury of unencumbered lateral movement, or the ability to dance and zig and zag away from your partner.
This is so obvious when you read it, but in reality, where do most of us practice?
In wide-open spaces.
How To Better Prepare for Real-World Violence?
Start incorporating deliberate, intentional, practical repetitions in very confined spaces. This will train your brain to adapt to the scenario, which legally and ethically influences everything!
Drilling in confined spaces influences everything. At extreme close quarters, there’s no time or room to dance around or stall. Real violence isn't sparring. Training in confined spaces forces you to consider that.
Drilling in confined spaces improves suddenness and decisiveness. Done correctly, it will also improve target acquisition, proprioception, balance, and follow-through. As you get more commutable, your environmental (obstacles) awareness grows. Confidence improves dramatically, especially if you invest in High Gear® scenario equipment.
Drilling in confined spaces should include verbal strategies, transition between ranges, looking for escapes, access to improvised weapons, and so on. This type of training forces you to get creative.
Drilling in confined spaces makes self-defense training 3-Dimensional.
Incorporate this LOGIC into your training - it will help with mind speed. And the mind navigates the body!
